Madden brothers were born on March 11, 1979. Joel Reuben Madden is the lead vocalist for the band Good Charlotte and his brother Benji Madden plays lead guitar in their band Good Charlotte. Joel is engaged and have a child with Nicole Richie while Benji is dating Paris Hilton.

Here are 10 things your probably didn´t know about Madden brothers.

1. They are identical twins, but Benji is 5 minutes older and 6cm (2.36 inch) shorter than his brother Joel.

2. When they were fifteen years old, their father, Roger, left the family on Christmas Eve. To distance them from their father, they changed their last name from Combs (fathers last name) to Madden (mothers maiden name).

3. After their father left them, their mother had to take care of all the children on her own. They had financial problems and brothers took various odd jobs as teenagers to help their mother with bills.

4. In 1995, Madden brothers attended the Beastie Boys Communication Tour. They were so inspired by the Beastie Boys concert that they started their own band known as Good Charlotte.

5. Their friends use to make prank calls to them pretending to work on a record company and offered them a contract. Twins were however convinced that they would eventually get a record contract.

6. In 1998, they started to get gigs with their band Good Charlotte in different clubs and the record company, Epic Records, offered them a record contract in year 2000. They released their first album the same year.

7. Benji use to match his hair color with his underwear color. At one point he had pink hair and his brother revealed that Benji wore pink underwear.

8. Joel used to use drugs but according to him, he is only addicted to cigarettes. “Without the cigarettes I would probably use heroin on daily basis”, he said.

9. Joel used to date Hilary Duff (relationship started when Hilary was 16 and Joel 25 years old), while Benji was engaged with the Australian actress Sophie Monk and dated Playboy-model Kara Monaco.

10. They own a clothing line called DCMA Collective together with their big brother Josh Madden and a friend called Tal Cooperman.
